In gratitude...

Columbus House

Thanks to all who provided a wonderful Thanksgiving meal for the clients of Columbus House on Thursday, November 26 – turkey, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, green beans, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, salad, bread & butter, and apple pie. Thanks to all who provided $25 each for turkeys:  Cynthia Licata, Bobbie Kraus, Gayle Logan, Theresa Voss, Laurie Bleickardt and Barbara Hobbs.  Our food providers were:  Ellen Schowalter, Laurie Bleickardt, Jean Davis, Gayle Logan, Theresa Voss, Maureen Munzner, Barbara Hobbs, Alice White, Andri Smith, Amy Lynn, Cynthia Licata, Jacki and Don Colvin, Marian Page, Nancy Elliott, the Offutt family, Lynn Andrewsen, Carolyn Cary, and the Watkins family.  Our servers were:  Gayle Logan, Larry Logan, Jeremy Logan, Andri Smith, Brian Geddes, Owen Geddes, Jean Davis, Hugh Davis, and Alice White.

This is a wonderful ministry, and one that is easy to get involved in.  Spring Glen Church provides the evening meal at Columbus House on the fourth Thursday of each month. It’s an easy way to help others on your own time – even if you can’t serve on Thursday night, you can shop or cook ahead of time – and if you have young children in your life, it’s a great way to get them involved in helping others.   (Children can be great cake bakers, casserole mixers, and servers.)

Our next opportunity to serve will be Thursday, January 28.   Look for the sign-up sheet each month in the entryway, and join us in this fun, rewarding, and essential ministry.   (Questions?  Contact Amy Lynn, 203-281-7089, jesta5@comcast.net.)  “For I was hungry, and you gave me food.” Matthew 25:35.

Gratitude for The Angel Tree Angels

Once again the generosity of this church has made 36 children’s Christmas morning a little brighter. There are 33 children served by The Town of Hamden’s Youth Services and 3 children from the Adopt an Apartment Program at Christian Community Action who will benefit. There are angels on earth who gave so freely to help others. This is one of the many strengths of this church and is the true meaning of this season. The Christian Action Committee would like to thank those who helped us reach our goal of helping these families to have a Merry Christmas.  - Lee Laster, Christian Action Committee

Mitten Tree Thank You

Many thanks for all of you who decorated the Mitten Tree this season. Thank you for remembering the children and young adults in need of warm hats, gloves, mittens, scarves and socks with your donations. The tree will continue to be in the narthex and receiving your gifts through the end of December. They will be delivered to the shelters that we support in early January. Thanks so very much for warming bodies and souls this season. - Carolyn Cary, Christian Action Committee
