Terese Gemme

Terese Gemme, a native of Massachusetts, received a Bachelor of Music degree in Sacred Music and Music Education, magna cum laude, from Anna Maria College in Paxton, Massachusetts, and a Master of Music degree in Organ Performance from The Boston Conservatory.  She was awarded the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in 1994 from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University. She has studied piano with Maureen Egan, organ and harpsichord with Stephen Long, Phillip Steinhaus, James David Christie and Donald Sutherland, and conducting with Allan Lannom, Frederick Prausnitz, James Jordan and Constantina Tsoulainou.  Before moving to Connecticut, she held positions as Director of Choral Music/Assistant Professor of Music at Olivet College in Michigan, and Director of Music/Assistant Professor of Liturgical Music at St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore. In addition to an active career as a recitalist and liturgical musician, she has served as Assistant Conductor of the Heritage Chorale in Framingham, Massachusetts, Music Director of the Eaton Rapids Women’s Chorus in Michigan, and guest conductor of the Battle Creek Community Chorus.   A resident of Hamden, she is currently Associate Professor of Music at Southern Connecticut State University where she conducts the University Choir and Chamber Singers, and also serves as Director of the University’s Honors College.
