This is a Day of New Beginnings

October 25, 2021

Dear Spring Glen Church Family and Friends,

God gave Noah a rainbow, Sarah a child, Mary an empty tomb, and Paul a blinding light.  Our faith teaches us that there are continually times of renewal and new beginnings, and that God’s mighty spirit makes a world of difference.

So we offer these words from the hymn “This is a Day of New Beginnings”:
“Let us, with the Spirit’s daring, step from the past and leave behind our disappointment, … seeking new paths.”

As we begin to come out of the 19 months of pandemic, with well-founded feelings of disappointment and grief:
-- Where are you seeing some rainbows after the storm, ... new life, ... God’s light shining for you?
-- How do you feed your spiritual hunger or quench your thirst for church community?
-- Where do you see the signs of New Beginnings, the opportunities to Re-connect, Re-build, and Re-Imagine?

This is what life is about.  This is what church is about. Join us as – strengthened by God’s mighty spirit -- we reconnect with one another, rebuild our sense of church community and reimagine the future of Spring Glen Church.

Reconnect:
--With friends of many years and new folks eager to meet you in our community of faith.
--Through online worship, through on-lawn worship and celebrations, and in our sanctuary.
--Through book discussions, Bible study, contemplative prayer, men’s breakfast
--Through providing food for Columbus House, through building homes with Habitat
--Through our partnership in justice work with other churches across the state through CONECT.
--Through individual conversations – reach out to your church friends to say hello and connect.

Rebuild:
--Our church is grounded in decades of service to the community and nurturing one another.
--That work has continued through the past 19 pandemic months
--The distancing imposed by the pandemic has not kept us from our call to reflect God’s love by loving one another.
--So we are dedicated to rebuilding this Body of Christ to meet the challenges of the coming year and the challenges in the uncharted future to come.

Reimagine:
--Our community’s future ripe with possibility just waiting for you to add your ideas and support.
--We will savor the return to treasured spaces, and traditions.
--And while treasuring those spaces and traditions, we will also incorporate new opportunities, and continue Spring Glen Church’s tradition of seeking God’s new paths.
--With guidance of the Yale Divinity School, Spring Glen Church will be doing a 2-semester Visioning process.
--Imagine the possibilities!  Imagine what we can accomplish together, with God’s love!

Thank you for being one of Spring Glen Church’s living signs of God’s presence!  We are continually blessed by your presence among us. This past year has been a challenging one, and the challenges are not yet over. So thank you for your support in the past and please do renew, and even consider increasing, your support through your pledge so that we can plan the best ways that we will live into the call of God in the coming year.

Pledging -- an expression of our intended giving in the coming year -- is essential to enabling the church to plan for the coming year, to deepen and grow our ministries, to continue to serve as a beacon of hope. We invite you to consider increasing your generosity in the coming year.  We are a community; in this tumultuous year, some among us are experiencing difficult circumstances and will have to reduce their annual pledge.  Others -- perhaps including you -- will be able to step forward and give more, in this time when the world needs church more than ever.  Please look at the chart of giving levels, and consider whether this is the year in which you can move up a level or two, to ensure that even in this incredibly difficult time, Spring Glen Church’s ministries will remain strong, and that as our Visioning process unfolds in the spring, Spring Glen Church will be ready to step forward.

God’s light shines on us and lights our way.  It’s up to us to step forward and re-imagine our path, to light up our church and help light up our local and global communities.

The world so needs church.   And church so needs you.

Please join us as we recommit as Spring Glen Church 2022, showing that indeed, Christ is alive and goes before us, showing and sharing what love can do.

Can make for us a world of difference,
As faith and hope are born again.”
