Each summer the Youth Group does a week-long service trip, to do such things as help rebuild houses or run a day camp for children: Virginia (2004), Vermont (2005), New Orleans (2006), Philadelphia (2007), Kentucky (2009), Boston (2011), Washington DC (2012), Kentucky (2013), Staten Island (2014), and Hurrican Sandy clean-up in New Jersey (2015).
For the August 2014 summer service trip, the youth group partnered with an organization in Staten Island called Faith in Action to work with folks who have been affected by poverty, homelessness, HIV and AIDS. We served in places such as their soup kitchen, clothing pantry and their emergency shelters, as well as participated in some programming spending time with some of the people that they have helped in the past.
For the August 2015 summer service trip, the youth partnered with Visitation Relief Services, based in Brick, NJ, to assist in the clean-up and recovery from Super Storm Sandy of October 2012. We were graciously hosted by the wonderful Tom's River UCC church. The youth and advisors worked on three different homes, homes that these home owners have been unable to occupy for almost three years now.
