NEW to Spring Glen are Bible Funshops
On Oct 16 and 23, a parent (or grandparent) was asked to come to Sunday School with their 4th or 5th grader after the Children's Message. Together they had many hands-on experiences with activities, games and puzzles and creating bookmarks. The purpose of the Bible Fun Shop is for the 4th and 5th graders to gain more confidence and skill in using the Bible. At the Fun Shop the parent is the partner for their child. Our pictures reflect the fun and meaningful experience of parent and child partners.
4th and 5th Grades receive personal Bibles
Oct 23, 4th and 5th graders received a personal Bible. An honored Spring Glen tradition is that parents choose a Bible verse for their child to be included on the bookplate. A special thank you to Nick Appleby for preparing the bookplates. With the recommendation of the ministers and the Christian Education Committee, the presentation Bible is the New Revised Standard Version which is the same version as the Bibles in the pews. However, this will also be a Bible with kids in mind. They will encounter factoids, book intros, stickers, maps and more.
The following passages were selected by the recipient’s parents:
- (Isaiah 40:31) “…but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
- (Matthew 5:14) “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden.”
- (Psalm 119:105) “Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path.”
- (Romans 15:13) “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
- (Isaiah 40:31) “…but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
- (Mark 12:29-31) Jesus answered, “The first is, ‘Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
- (Colossians 3:12 ) “As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.”
