Come to the Waters - A Retreat for Women of the Church
March 29-31 Incarnation Center, Deep River, CT
Healing waters, deep waters, well waters, rough waters, still waters and waters of Baptism… With just these few words you can see that the theme of water is a rich one for our reflection, bible study, and prayer. We are excited by the opportunity to be together for a time of connection and community, conversation and good cheer. Singing, worship with communion, periods of silence, small groups, enjoying the natural wooded surroundings will be part of our retreat.
In the spirit of welcome, we are going to organize the Women’s
retreat to include a one-day option. More of us will be able to attend and we will be able to enjoy an expanded community of women of the church.
Having a one-day option can be a distinct advantage: it would allow up to twenty more women to participate, and for some, not sleeping over might actually be preferable. Those coming out for the day will still experience the central aspects of the retreat and enjoy lunch and dinner together.
Since we’ve never done this before, we will be relying on everyone’s flexibility going forward. This will be a new experience requiring some adjustments, and we will surely discover new friends and deepen our connection with each other through this configuration. And we are blessed that our retreat leader, The Rev. Donna Manocchio, is wonderfully adept at accommodating our needs. Some of you will remember that last year, we actually had to hold the retreat in the Church’s Fellowship Room, because of a power outage at Incarnation Center. Rev. Donna reworked everything at the very last minute. And it was a great experience for us all.
Please read below for background and details on how to sign up, costs and scholarships.
The Women’s Retreat has been a feature of Spring Glen Church for decades. In recent years, we have gathered at Incarnation Center in Deep River, about 40 minutes from Hamden. The facility is comfortable, and the price is one of the lowest in the state. Our meeting room is adjacent to a hall with beds and bathrooms, of which there are a maximum of 21 for participants.
The good news this year is that we likely will have more people who would like to attend than beds. We’d like to reserve a certain number of beds for those who will join us for the first time, but we don’t know and won’t know how many we’ll be until the sign up process begins.
For those sleeping over, the retreat would stay essentially the same, gathering on Friday night, and going through to Sunday morning. We leave before lunch.
