Least of These
Today’s biblical grounding in the attached screenshot of a tweet from Rev Jacqui Lewis is an adaptation of the parable of the sheep & the goats.
For those who don’t know the reference, Jesus tells a parable about separating sheep from goats based on whether or not they helped “the least of these” in society, adding that how we treat the lowest is how we treat Jesus.
You can “praise the name” all you want, but if you ignore the most vulnerable then you ain’t praising Jesus.
An important piece that is often overlooked, the section is called the “judgement of the nations.” Often when people talk about this passage, they think it’s about how individual action gets us into Heaven or condemned to Hell. But it’s actually about how we as an entire nation will be judged for the way we treat the people our systems shut out.
